The cast and crew of “The Trial of the Wicked Witch” performed first for their Bulkeley Middle School peers and teachers prior to taking the stage for two shows before the Rhinebeck community.
“This is the first time we have had them perform in front of their peers,” said BMS Principal John Kemnitzer. “I think that was fantastic and something we’ll continue in the future.
“They did a fantastic job. The hard work paid off. This is the third year we’ve had a drama club in the middle school, and every performance gets better and better.”
The actors admitted they may have battled more nerves performing in front of students and staff.
“I think I was more nervous this afternoon because all my friends were out in the auditorium,” said Cyan Stiker, who played the Wicked Witch.
“I had a ton of fun. I love acting and I’m with a lot of my friends. It’s just a great feeling to be out there.”
In the play, the Wicked Witch was on trial for crimes against fairytale characters. Little Red Riding Hood and the Evil Stepmother from Cinderella served as the prosecuting and defense attorneys, respectively. The fairy godmother was the judge. The three pigs and Jack the Giant Killer were court staff.
The witnesses included Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, Prince Charming and the Gingerbread Man.
“I thought it went pretty well,” said eighth grader Linus Ramakrishnan, who played Prince Charming. “This role is really fun. I get to be someone completely different. I get to do so many fun things and I’m also working with all these incredible people.”
Indy Gild played Jack the Giant Killer.
“I think it went great,” said the eighth grader. “Everything went smoothly. It was really fun.”
