Anna Quattrone is thrilled to be spending time with her closest friends at Rhinebeck High School, preparing for the Rhinebeck Drama Club’s production of “Into the Woods.” It’s the senior’s final spring musical, which will be performed by students on March 20 and 21 at 7 p.m., and March 22 at 2 p.m.
“I’m really excited,” said Quattrone. “I love these people so much. They make my day. I’m happy to be spending my senior year with such a fun play and all of them.”
“Into the Woods” is based on James Lapine’s book with music and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim. The story follows a couple into the woods to break a witch’s curse. In their venture, they encounter several characters from stories such as “Cinderella,” “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” The play, which premiered on Broadway in 1987, won numerous Tony Awards and was later adapted into the 2014 movie starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Johnny Depp.
“‘Into the Woods’ speaks directly to high school students because it reflects what growing up feels like right now,” said Tiffany McGehee, play director. “The characters want clear answers and happy endings, but instead they face confusion, broken promises, and the realization that adults don’t always have it figured out.
“For students living in a world that often feels uncertain and divided, the show reminds them that it’s okay to question, to make mistakes, and to learn how their choices affect others. Ultimately, it affirms that community, empathy, and taking responsibility for one another matter more than perfect outcomes.”
Quattrone and sophomore Daphne Tamm are part of the “Jack and the Beanstalk” crew. Quattrone plays the role of the cow Milky White, and Tamm is Jack.
“There are a lot of good songs he sings and I love singing,” said Tamm.
Quattrone and Tamm believe this show will be a hit. Tickets will be available soon.
“It’s a very upbeat play and I like the fairytales about it,” said Quattrone. “It’s really fun. I saw this once at a different school and it was so good. I’m so happy this is my senior musical.”
Tamm added, “We’ve got a great cast and everyone is working really hard. There are so many good songs in the show. It’s such an entertaining show. There is so much happening at once. If there is a specific character that you like, they’re going to be on stage.”
