Free Breakfast for All Students

Free Breakfast for All Students
Posted on 09/06/2023

Dear Rhinebeck families,

Happy First Day of School! We are thrilled to have our students back in our buildings.  Each day gets smoother from here, so we appreciate the support and partnership in helping to ease the transition back to school. Read on below for some very good news!

We are pleased to announce that Rhinebeck Central School District will provide free school breakfast for all Rhinebeck students beginning on Monday, September 11, 2023, and continuing for the entire school year. This decision was made possible in part to additional funding provided to the school lunch program during the pandemic. The free breakfast program is available to ALL Rhinebeck students, regardless of whether or not they qualify for free or reduced meals.

The Rhinebeck Central School District is grateful for the opportunity to ensure that every student starts their day with a healthy, nutritious meal.  We know that research shows a child who starts the day with breakfast is more likely to be at school, has improved concentration, and is more willing to participate in the classroom. We also hope that this decision will support families in their morning routines, by ensuring that student breakfast is taken care of by our dedicated food service helpers.

To receive breakfast, students will go through the serving line and any meal they take will be recorded on their account at no charge. If a student chooses to take an a la carte breakfast item, they will be charged accordingly.  Due to state regulations, only full meals qualify for the free breakfast program.

A full breakfast meal consists of at least 1oz. protein, 1 oz. grain, 1 cup fruit, and 8 oz. low fat milk with an overall calorie count of between 350 – 500 calories. The weekly breakfast menu includes a variety of items each day including cereals, fresh fruit, bagels, egg patties, ham and cheese melts, and more. To see the menu for each day of the week - visit the district website and follow the tab entitled "Families" and "Lunch Menus" located under Parent Resources.

If you have any questions, please contact our Food Services Department at 845 871-5500 ext. 6579.

Have a great day!
