Back To School Checklist with Technology 2024-2025

Here are some reminders, tips, and notices regarding technology in the district for all faculty:

  • MacMinis have been installed in each classroom and have replaced any Dell desktops
  • There are some key tips to keep in mind when using the new MacMinis with Windows mouse and keyboard:
    • To reverse the scroll direction on a Mac: System Preferences > Trackpad/Mouse > Scroll & Zoom > Check or uncheck the Scroll direction “Natural” box
    • The keyboard commands will be the same as the MacBook, but instead of the "command" button you would use the "windows" button (the windows icon), so copy and paste won't be "control+c" and "control+v" it would be "windows+c" and "windows+v"
  • To play sound through the TV sound bar
    • Go to System Settings > Sound > Output & Input > Output > Choose the Dell TV
  • Using the Sound bar:
    • Ensure the sound bar is powered on (you can leave it powered on) and set to analogue
    • Raising and lowering the volume will not give you constant feedback with the lights that it's raising or lowering, it will go up or down in increments so try holding the volume up/down button for a few seconds to confirm the volume is changing
  • When logging in to the MacMini you must log in using the Microsoft Entra ID login and not the "local login" or it will not be able to create your account on the new machine
  • Students are allowed to use their district assigned Apple device only.  This includes their daily use computer or the loaner assigned to the student by the library.  Teachers will not allow student to use the teacher’s computer or the classroom’s computer.
  • Your RCSD website login credentials are the same as your computer credentials (username instead of email, ex. “Jdoe” not “[email protected]”)
  • It is recommended that each student change their password once they receive their laptop, a guide is provided in this email; when using the default password students have been found to be impersonating other students
  • If you encounter a technology issue please open a work order using the MySchoolBuilding site found on the RCSD website
  • Personal drives must be mounted to your Apple devices, a guide has been provided on the steps required, this will only need to be completed once per machine (if you use more than one machine you will need to do it on each)
