Principal Brett King shared a letter he wrote to the fifth grade graduating class of Chancellor Livingston Elementary School at a ceremony celebrating the 69 students in the high school auditorium on June 23.
“I’d like to say congratulations on your great accomplishment of graduating elementary school,” he said. “We watched you not only become better students and peers, but we’ve seen a level of growth in more ways than we can count.
“When I walk through the halls of Chancellor, I see endless examples of students rising to exceptional exceptions of academic brilliance, creating an environment that fosters understanding, collaboration and a consistent drive for excellence.”
King’s remarks opened the ceremony. His speech was followed by award presentations, awarding of the diplomas and closing remarks by Assistant Principal Michael Kirk.
“It is time to celebrate your accomplishments and to celebrate another chapter in your educational journey,” said Kirk. “It was certainly a pleasure getting to know you and watch you grow over these past few years.”
Kirk recalled a walk the fifth graders took as third graders to the Beekman Arms.
“I remember the excitement, enthusiasm and the wonderful conversations we shared along the way,” he said. “Moments like those remind us that school is not just about academics, it’s about the relationships, experiences and memories we create together.”
Before presenting the diplomas, each teacher had a few minutes to speak about their class. Teacher Chantal Collins retired at the end of the school year and received an honorary diploma from students and staff.
“What I enjoyed most was being with my teacher,” said Etta Grande, one of Collins’ students. “She was the best. It was a really fun year.”
The students all followed in praising their teachers – Rachel Darling, Jill Simmons and Scott Stiverson. The pupils will be attending Bulkeley Middle School for the next three years. The fifth graders all had sixth grade pen pals during the 2025-2026 school year, and were introduced to their pen pals during a meet and greet before the end of the school year.
The fifth graders enjoyed some pizza and ice cream with their pen pals, and participated in some activities with their correspondents.
“We had a tour of the school. It was really nice. We got to see the gym and everything,” said Declan Kennedy. “I’m looking forward to coming up here.”
Walker Kaleel has mixed emotions as he enters middle school.
“I’m going to miss the happiness we had in elementary school and I want to thank everyone at CLS for giving me such a great time,” said Kaleel.
“I’m really excited about middle school. I’m looking forward to learning more and meeting new people.”
