2017-18 Rhinebeck School Budget Passes; Savolainen and Raum Elected To 3 year BOE Terms
The 2017-18 Rhinebeck Central School budget was approved by the District's voters on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. A total of 951 votes were cast, 450 more votes than in May 2016. 577 votes were tallied in favor of the budget, with 374 "No" votes registered. The budget passed by a margin of 60.67% in favor.
The budget featured a 3.07% budget-to-budget increase, with a resulting tax levy increase of 3.88%, an increase of 1.7% above the 2017-18 State tax cap levy limit of 2.17% for the Rhinebeck District.
In addition, Board newcomers Jaclyn Savolainen (580 votes) and Elizabeth Raum (496 votes) were elected. Candidate Joseph Baer received 491 votes. Both successful candidates will be seated for three-year terms as members of the Board of Education. As the highest vote total recipient, Jaclyn Savolainen will be seated at the May 23, 2017 BOE meeting. Elizabeth Raum will be seated at the first Board meeting in July 2017.
