District Receives/Releases Results of Required Water Testing and Retesting at Both School Buildings

On September 6, 2016, Governor Cuomo signed a law requiring all school districts to conduct water testing to determine the presence of lead in drinking water. In response, we collected samples from 101 water outlets at Bulkeley Middle School/Rhinebeck High School, which included drinking fountains, classroom faucets, bathroom faucets, and kitchen faucets, as required.

Of the 101 water samples tested at BMS/RHS, the results received indicate that three (3) showed readings exceeding the New York State Department of Health’s (NYSDOH) “action level” for lead in school drinking water, which is 15 micrograms per liter (µg/L) or parts per billion (ppb).

Two (2) of the locations tested are hand washing sink faucets, and one (1) location is a pot washing sink in the RHS kitchen. NO drinking fountains or other washing sink faucets in the BMS/RHS building were found to have lead levels above concentrations allowed by the NYSDOH.

The three (3) water outlets at BMS/RHS with lead levels exceeding NYSDOH requirements are:

Hand Washing Sink #2 - Women’s Auditorium Restroom

Hand Washing Sink #4 - Women’s Auditorium Restroom

RHS Kitchen Pot Washing Sink - Right

A complete list of the various water outlets at BMS/RHS that were tested, and the resulting lab test results, can be found at RHS/BMS Water Testing Results, effective 12-2-16

NO drinking fountains or kitchen faucets were found to have lead levels above concentrations allowed by the NYSDOH.

The ten (10) water outlets at CLS with lead levels exceeding NYSDOH requirements are:
