Board-Approved Later School Start Time Pilot to Begin in September 2016; School Start and End Times to Change Effective Sept 7, 2016
Starting on September 7, 2016, the BMS and RHS school day schedule will begin with period 1 at 8:00 am, and with period 9 ending at 2:35 pm. Doors at BMS/RHS will be open in the morning for students at 7:15 am, and teachers will be in their classrooms by 7:35 am. Passing times between classes will be 3 minutes long.
At CLS, students will still be allowed to enter the building at 8:45 am, as before. Classes at CLS will begin five (5) minutes later, at 9:00 am instead of 8:55 am, and will end five (5) minutes later, with buses leaving the building at 3:35 pm instead of at 3:30 pm, as they do currently.
The school district will pilot this change to a later school start time, as a result of compelling research in the national medical community, as a result of action by the Board of Education in March 2016 in order to provide additional sleep for secondary-level students and an improved instructional climate at BMS and RHS as a result . The impact of this district-wide change on start and end times at CLS will be minimal.
