2016-17 Rhinebeck School Budget Passes by Wide Margin Again This Year, With More Votes Cast; Jenkins Elected, d'Albertis & Schulkind Re-Elected, To 3 year BOE Terms


The 2016-17 Rhinebeck Central School budget was approved by the District's voters on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. A total of 501 votes were cast,     66 votes more than in May 2015. 404 votes were tallied in favor of the budget, with 97 "No" votes registered. The budget passed by a margin of 80.6% in favor.

 

The budget featured a 1.44% budget-to-budget increase, the lowest spending increase in 26 years, since 1991-92. The  resulting tax levy increase of 1.26%, just dollars below the 2016-17 State tax cap levy limit for the Rhinebeck District, for the lowest tax levy increase in 25 years, since 1992-93.

 

In addition, Board incumbents Deirdre d'Albertis (416 votes) and Laura Schulkind (424 votes) were re-elected. Board newcomer Stephen Jenkins also was elected (407 votes). All three candidiates will be seated for three-year terms as members of the Board of Education, beginning July 1, 2016.
