RHS Drama Club Presents the New Mel Brooks' Musical "Young Frankenstein" April 4, 5, 6, 2014
The Rhinebeck High School stage will be transformed into the wilds of Transylvania when the Rhinebeck High School Drama Club opens its production of The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein. This show, a hilarious twist on the classic horror story, focuses on the exploits of Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced Fronkensteen), grandson of the legendary scientist, and his loyal assistant Igor (pronounced Eyegore)
Encouraged by the ghost of his grandfather Victor von Frankenstein (Austin Jessen) and aided by the fetching fraulein Inga (Willa Pruit), Frau Blucher (Sarah Fleischhauer), and Igor (Azure Leffeld), Frederick Frankenstein (James Fleischhauer) reluctantly continues his grandfather's experiments in reanimation.
Yet, trouble begins when The Monster (Adam Valle) breaks loose and is pursued by Inspector Kemp (Rebecca Gausepohl), Ziggy (Vincent O’Haire), and the villagers; but Frederick's worries are furthered when his "study of anatomy" with Inga is interrupted by the arrival of his fiancée, Elizabeth (Julia Alexis).
This madcap story of monsters and mayhem, based on the story and screenplay of Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks, is enhanced with the music and lyrics by this comic genius. The score includes notable tunes like “Together Again for the First Time, “Please Don’t Touch Me,” “Join the Family Business,” and Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
With a cast and crew of nearly seventy students, Rhinebeck High School is fortunate once again to have a talented team of adults: Vincent Nugent, director; Grace Lalicki, vocal director; Laura Natalie, conductor; Roberta Andersen, choreographer; Linda Sutherland, accompanist; and Cynthia Baer, set designer.
