Announcement: Chancellor Pupils to Receive Program on Bullying

April seems to be the very short school month; however, it is filled with activity. Signaling the end of the third marking period, most teachers are busy with different forms of assessing pupils’ progress.  Fifth grade students have just completed the district-required EXPO project, fourth graders are earnestly preparing for the May State assessment in science.  Kindergarten through second grade teachers are meeting individually with pupils to evaluate their progress in reading and mathematics.

Under the direction of our CLS music teachers, Mrs. Sandra Kane and Ms. Stephanie Crew, pupils in all of the grades are preparing an exciting program for the May 23 Special Friend’s Day.  Spring Concerts featuring fourth and fifth grade choruses, the Show Choir, and the CLS Band are also being rehearsed.

Our teachers are preparing for May 1st parent-teacher conferences and continue to implement lessons consistent with the district’s curriculum.

Here are some other highlights of events at Chancellor:

  • 4th grade pupils are working with local authors to learn the process of writing, illustrating, publishing, and marketing a book.
  • Junior Achievement will conduct a series of six lessons on economics with the second grade and third grade classes.
  • National Volunteer Week was April 14 - 18.  Thanks to all CLS volunteers for your valuable work.  We are further along in providing a dynamic school program with all of your help!
  • Mrs. Mortensen’s and Mrs. Yearwood’s first grade classes are partnering  with Mrs. Dedrick’s third grade class to present a play.
  • 5th grade classes will travel to Maritime Museum in preparation for Whale Watch

Parent Involvement

CLS parents are very active in the PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization). Our annual Fall Festival is a Saturday celebration in October filled with games, crafts, food and entertainment open to the entire community. Our PTSO coordinates the Book Fair, School Pictures and other special school events. The PTSO supports the Arts in Education Activities and Teacher Grant Programs. Hundreds of parent volunteer help in the school and classrooms in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Several parents participate in the CLS Building Level Planning Team, a shared-decision making team make up of parents, teachers and the building principal. The CLS Building Level Planning team organized the Enrichment program, completed a homework study, supported school planners for grades 3-4-5, assisted in the implementation of full day kindergarten and other options for school program improvement, is responsible for the CLS Safety Plan, established the summer reading program, and helped in making the cafeteria menu a more healthy one.
